Looking for activities to do with a toddler this fall?

Well…Think of the smell of the changing leaves. The surprising colors of the trees. The beautiful scenery that most people love to capture. Fall is officially here!

Oh yes… I have a toddler now but what are some of the activities that I can do?

In today’s post, we are lucky to have Alexi, a mom of a 1-year-old, a fur mama, a wife, and a middle school science teacher. Read the post and you’ll find 11 Easy Fall Activities to do with a toddler this year.

The weather is beginning to cool down, and pumpkin spice is among us. Summer is fading and the season of sweaters, crisp leaves, and orange hues are around the corner.

Summer was full of pool parties and water parks, but Autumn brings us a new set of opportunities for activities to engage in with your toddler. Here is a list of things I can’t wait to experience with my little one this season!

1. GO ON A LEAF “SCAVENGER HUNT”

Collect different fallen leaves and categorize them into different colors. Fall brings such beautiful colors for us to admire, and this gives us an opportunity to teach our little ones about different colors in nature. Your toddler can have a blast collecting all those crunchy leaves to play with.

2. PUMPKIN PATCH

Some of our local pumpkin patches have different activities for kids such as a corn pit where they can roll around and play in. This is a great sensory activity, as long as they don’t try to eat it!

You can also let your children pick out their own pumpkin and they can sit with their chosen pumpkin in their wagon. Imagine how proud they’ll be to bring home their own chosen little pumpkin?

3. FIND YOUR WAY THROUGH A CORN MAZE

Make it a family activity to find your way through a corn maze. This is a great way to let your kids burn off some energy and feel accomplished when you get to the end together.

4. CREATE LEAF RUBBINGS

Use different colored crayons to create a masterpiece your child will be proud of! Just place paper on top of a leaf and rub the crayon on the paper. Much less messy than paint, and your little one with love the freedom to use the crayon all over their paper.

5. RAKE UP A PILE OF LEAVES AND JUMP IN

This is an opportunity to teach about chores, but also have some fun outdoors. This may seem like a simple activity, but that’s the joy about children! They find joy in the little things in life and will love helping you make piles of leaves and having the freedom to jump in.

6. EXPLORE AN APPLE ORCHARD

Let your kids enjoy a healthy snack while you take a ride around the orchard pointing out the different kinds of apples. You can pick up some apple cider to take home, and some apples to make chips to enjoy at home.

7. VISIT THE ZOO

Summer time can be too hot to be outdoors exploring the zoo, but once the weather cools off in fall, it is a perfect time to go. Show your children the animals they have been reading about in their children’s books.

8. DECORATE PUMPKINS WITH STICKERS

They might not be ready for carving yet, and if you’re not ready for the mess of painting, stickers are a great and fun alternative for pumpkin decorating. Let your little one pick a spot outdoors or inside where they can display their masterpiece.

9. READ AUTUMN-THEMED CHILDREN’S BOOKS

Read about why the leaves change colors, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and all the fun activities that come with fall.

Spark your little one’s love for reading and watch them make connections about what’s in their books, to what they see and have experienced during this lovely season.

10. COORDINATE FAMILY COSTUMES

This is one of my favorite things about fall! I love coming up with matching Halloween costumes for our family. Of course, our dog has to be included in the fun.
